At Sauleda, we are very happy to share that our Green fabric has been awarded the renowned Red Dot Award for design and functionality. This international award is an important endorsement of the quality and usefulness of products that, like Green, are making a difference in our sector. But why has Green been deserving of this prestigious recognition?
How does this process work? Green fabric is coated with titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles. When the sun’s UVA rays hit the fabric, a chemical process called photocatalysis is triggered:
- Oxygen and water vapour present in the atmosphere are transformed into cleaning agents: hydroxyl radicals (OH) and active oxygen (O2).
- These agents break down organic dirt and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into harmless minerals and gases, which are then converted into water.
- In addition, active oxygen reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx), one of the most harmful gases present in air pollution, turning it into relatively harmless nitrates.
- This process is repeated millions of times, acting as a continuous and silent air purifier. Laboratory tests have shown that Green fabric can reduce nitrogen dioxide levels by about 55%.
But the benefits don’t end there. This technology also gives it a self-cleaning capability, preventing the growth of mould by approximately 60% and reducing the need for intensive cleaning by around 70%. This translates into saving time, money, water, chemicals and energy, reaffirming our commitment to the environment and people’s well-being.
This accolade, awarded by design experts from around the world, reaffirms our commitment to creating solutions that not only add value today, but also define the future of our industry, resulting in cities with cleaner air and more beautiful urban environments.
